One Year Later: Reflecting on the Election of Pope Leo XIV
May 8, 2025, will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of the Villanova community. On this day, Pope Leo XIV was named the leader of the global Catholic Church. One year later, we pause to reflect on what this historic moment has meant for the world, the Church and, in a singular way, Villanova.
Acclaimed Journalist and NBC’s TODAY Co-Anchor Craig Melvin to Deliver 2026 Commencement Address
Villanova University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, announced that acclaimed journalist and NBC’s TODAY co-anchor Craig Melvin will deliver the Commencement address for the Class of 2026. Melvin will also receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. The University’s 183rd Commencement ceremony will take place Tuesday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m. in Villanova Stadium.
Villanova University and the University of Notre Dame will meet in Rome, Italy, in November 2026 for a unique celebration of the institutions’ shared Catholic missions and heritage. The jointly hosted event will feature a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader, along with special programming that brings together academics, athletics and spirituality.
National Science Foundation Awards CAREER Grant to Villanova Engineering Professor
The National Science Foundation has named Tommaso Cappello, PhD, assistant professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and director of the High-Performance RF Lab at Villanova University’s College of Engineering, as a recipient of the Early Career Development (CAREER) Award.
Villanova University Cabrini Campus Opening in 2026
Villanova University’s new 112-acre Cabrini Campus will open in August 2026, providing the opportunity for the University to enhance its programs and commitment to advancing Catholic higher education. This addition will support all aspects of campus life, providing a space that nurtures a true living and learning experience in Villanova’s Augustinian Catholic tradition.
