On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, OSA, '77 CLAS, was elected the 267th pope. Now known to the world as Pope Leo XIV, he is not only the first pope from the United States, but also a fellow Augustinian and Villanovan. Across the University, our institutes, centers, programs and scholars are contributing meaningfully to conversations about Pope Leo XIV, the papacy and the future of the Catholic Church.

Villanova University Set to Host the 2026 International Sustainability Conference
Villanova University and its Office for Sustainability will host the 2026 International Sustainability Conference entitled Responding to the Cries of the Earth and the Poor, from October 12–16, 2026, in Rome, Italy. The Conference will bring together participants in a transdisciplinary forum designed to move from dialogue to concrete, collaborative action.
Cardinal Czerny Named Inaugural Recipient of Villanova’s Pope Leo XIV Sustainability Medal
Villanova University has announced Cardinal Michael Czerny, SJ, as the inaugural laureate of the Pope Leo XIV Sustainability Medal, a newly established distinction recognizing outstanding leadership at the intersection of sustainability, ethics and integral human development. Pope Leo XIV will confer the distinction on Cardinal Czerny on Oct. 13, 2026, at Castel Gandolfo.
Villanova University and the University of Notre Dame will meet in Rome, Italy, for a unique celebration of the institutions’ shared Catholic missions and heritage. The event will feature a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader, along with special programming that brings together academics, athletics and spirituality.
Villanova University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, has announced that Adele Lindenmeyr, PhD, the William and Julia Moulden Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is retiring after nearly 40 years of service to Villanova University. Dr. Lindenmeyr, who has led the College since 2014, will retire in June 2028 after a sabbatical during the 2027-28 academic year.
